Crafting a feeling.
Striking characters work in the BMW Motorrad design team. Every designer has their own style and feels at home in their own biker scene. And each and every one of them adds their own inspiration and passion. These different forms are then combined in the design process: they are manifested in each new BMW Motorrad creation. Edgar Heinrich, head designer at BMW Motorrad, introduces the BMW Motorrad design team and the design process.

Designing means bringing an idea to life.
Designing means bringing an idea to life.
The first step of this process is to sketch the idea on paper. After this, there are many other steps such as "Tape Drawing" to define the lines, "Clay Modelling", the moulding of a three-dimensional model out of industrial plastiline, right up to "3D modelling" in a virtual space. At the end of the creative process, the colour and material design with its many possibilities for personalisation are finished.

Living and working. Make Life a Ride.
Living and working. Make Life a Ride.
"Those who have taken their bike right to the limit understand which requirements a motorcycle must fulfil", Edgar Heinrich says. For this reason, all designers at BMW Motorrad are passionate motorcyclists themselves. The fact that they work on their machines in their free time as well gives designers the opportunity to implement wholly unique ideas alongside standard production. From modern to high-tech bikes, and even vintage motorcycles, everything is represented in the garages of these creative geniuses. They find out how far they can go in the implementation of ideas on regular trips.
